The saying goes, "an old duck is a happy duck" and it's not unusual to find contented ducks who are 7 or 8 years old. This is quite old for a bird, most chickens will live for between 4 and 5 years by way of comparison. Some of the cross bred ducks which have been bred to be good egg layers would typically live for less, maybe around 5 years.

My mums white Campbell was 16 when she passed. She was hand reared from being a duckling.
